Perry is she is Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut in the television screen in the role of Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in her role on the ABC comedy Roseanne. Perry was a part of the drama's nine episodes from 2016 on the ABC drama The Family. Her father played her on The ABC drama Scandal. The same year her character was cast a younger version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young character of her mom's role. Despite having a family connection to the character she received the part through an audition.
